Ioncube loader installation : A brief intro
We believe that the documentation in Ioncube official site is pretty comprehensive, but more than we want to know. Hence, here we show you a shortcut method, not to go through whole the documentation. Keep in mind that this way is valid for the most cases, however if you are not able to get it to work, you should follow the long documentation on www.ioncube.com site.

The following example is for a Linux server, but the same concept is applicable to Windows servers.

Read the loaders FAQ first!

Method 1 : A simple one

  • Find  what is your system  and your PHP version
Go to your Joomla!/Mambo administration section, System -> System Info, and find this line:
PHP built On: Linux host.prosecureserver.net XXXXX #1 SMP Fri Jul 7 18:22:55 CDT 2006 x86_64
    PHP Version: 4.3.11

So, we have a x86-64 bit linux, running php v 4.3

  • Head on to Ioncube Loaders page. A quick look for our loader gives us the third row : Linux (x86-64)

  • Create a directory called "ioncube" in the root of your joomla/mambo installation (where configuration.php is)

  • Unzip the package and Copy/Upload the loaders you have downloaded to the above directoy

  • It should be working by now. If not, read the documentation and if not at all possible, contact us.

Method 2 : Local servers, Windows servers, ...

  • Find  what is your system  and your PHP version
Go to your Joomla!/Mambo administration section, System -> System Info, and find this line:
PHP built On: Windows NT XXXX 5.1 build 2600
    PHP Version: 4.3.11

So, we have a Windows, running php v 4.3

  • Head on to Ioncube Loaders page. Download Win package.

  • Create a directory called "ioncube" in the root of your joomla/mambo installation (where configuration.php is)

  • Unzip the package and Copy/Upload the loaders you have downloaded to the above directoy

  • Find your active php.ini file, in Joomla!/Mambo administration section, System -> System Info -> PHP Info

  • Add this line to the end of php.ini file:
    zend_extension_ts = H:/AppServ/www/ioncube/ioncube_loader_win_4.3.dll

Which should be adapted to your own ioncube directory above

  • Restart Apache

  • It should be working by now. If not, read the documentation and if not at all possible, contact us.
